US to provide market access to its products

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has urged the United States to provide market access to its products to promote trade between the two countries.

A meeting was held between the federal minister for commerce Khurram Dastgir Khan and US Ambassador to Pakistan Richard G. Olson at the former’s office in Islamabad.

According to a press release issued in this regard, during the meeting the federal commerce minister informed the US ambassador about the potential of US market for Pakistani products and urged him to provide market access.

The minister stated that the United States being the largest export destination of Pakistani products is an important trade partner with whom the trade relations need further expansion keeping in view the vast potential market.

Dastgir emphasized the need to diversify the export basket of Pakistan for the US market.

The US ambassador appreciated the concerns of the ministry with regard to provision of market access and assured that the future Pak-US relationship would owe more to trade rather than aid.

Olson also discussed with Dastgir the holding of next round of TIFA (Trade and Investment Framework Agreement) Council meeting and hoped that the two countries would have an exhaustive review of bilateral trade and investment relations in order to develop a long term road map to further strengthen the bilateral trade.
