ANKARA: Pakistan and Turkey have pledged to strengthen their cooperation in energy‚ trade‚ finance‚ transportation‚ infrastructure development‚ security‚ education and culture.

This was announced by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at a joint press conference along with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan after their talks in Ankara on Tuesday.

The prime minister said consistent with their shared vision of increasing connectivity‚ they have decided to enhance the number of weekly flights between the two countries, adding that our finance‚ cultural and educational linkages would also be strengthened.

The PM Nawaz expressed the confidence that they would be able to carry forward the positive momentum generated by their meeting in Akrana into a comprehensive framework of cooperation. He said that both the countries need to redouble their efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.

The prime minister said the Turkish Prime Minister will be coming to Pakistan to attend the next meeting of the Strategic Council soon. Before that he will also be coming to Pakistan in November this year to follow up on the agreements signed today (Tuesday).

On the occasion, Erdogan said the visit of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will give a new dimension to the Pakistan-Turkey relations. He said the visit will help further promote bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Meanwhile‚ Pakistan and Turkey signed 13 agreements for enhancing cooperation in different fields. The prime ministers of both the countries were present at the agreement signing ceremony in Ankara.
