Pakistan Railways reduces fare upto 20 percent for the month of Ramazan

Lahore, Pakistan: Pakistan Railways has announced to reduce fare upto 20 percent for the month of Ramazan to facilitate commuters.

The reduction in fares will be applicable from 1st Ramazan to 20th Ramazan-ul-Mubarak.

Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique while announcing reduction in fare said that reduction would be offered to all classes for passengers.

He also said that punctuality of arrival and departure of trains would be monitored by special vigilant staff.

Pakistan Railways is one of the largest public sector organisations that has been facing financial deficit of over 28 billion rupees a year. However, deficit came down from 32 billion rupees a year during the last two years.

Travelling by trains had been a major source of commuting in Pakistan till late 70s but constant deterioration in administration, large scale corruption, trade unionism and lack of previous governments made Pakistan Railways a miserable organisation during the last 40 years. However, sitting Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique is trying to pull Railways out of financial crises since he assumed the charge of the ministry.
