Pakistan keen to promote friendly ties with neighboring countries: Mamnoon

SHANGHAI: President Mamnoon Hussain and the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon held a meeting on the sidelines of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) summit in the Chinese city of Shanghai.

   

During the meeting, the two sides discussed situation in the region, especially focusing on Pakistan’s contribution towards promoting regional peace, security and stability.

The president reiterated Pakistan’s unswerving commitment towards regional peace and stability. He said that Pakistan is keen to promote its friendly relations with the neighboring countries for the mutual benefit of the people of the region.

President Mamnoon briefed the UN Secretary General about various efforts being made by the present government including dialogue process to meet the challenge of extremism and militancy.

The people of Pakistan highly value the support of Ban Ki-Moon towards strengthening of democracy, promotion of education and socio-economic development and fighting the scourge of extremism and militancy, the president said.

The UN Secretary General expressed his deep sense of satisfaction over Pakistan’s contribution towards peace keeping efforts. He assured the president that UN would continue to assist the government and the people of Pakistan in their efforts for socio-economic development.
