South AsiaPakistan, India won’t be held hostage to terrorists: Rasheed

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed has said that Pakistan and India will not allow terrorists to take them as hostage.

Talking to media representatives in Islamabad on Thursday, the minister said that both the nuclear powers are responsible countries and they will disclose any progress made in the investigation into the terror attack on Pathankot.

The information minister also said that that Foreign Secretary level talks between Pakistan and India have not been canceled.

The Foreign Secretaries of Pakistan and India Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry and S Jaishankar respectively were scheduled to meet in Islamabad on January 15 (tomorrow) to work out the modalities and schedule of the meetings of various segments under the Pak-India Comprehensive Bilateral Dialogue.

However, the Foreign Office spokesperson Qazi Khalilullah told media in Islamabad earlier in the day that Pakistan is in touch with India to reschedule their foreign secretary level talks.

The reason has not yet formally been disclosed for delaying the talks but the recent terror attack at the Pathankot air base and the subsequent investigations in both Pakistan and India are the apparent causes behind the deferment of the talks.

The banned outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad is suspected of carrying out the attack at Pathankot air base and according to information provided by New Delhi to Islamabad, Pakistani authorities have apprehended several activists of the outfit.

The Jaish-e-Muhammad Chief Maulana Masood Azhar has also reportedly been taken into custody by Pakistani authorities as part of the investigation of Pathankot incident but the foreign office spokesman declined to confirm his arrest during the media briefing.
