ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Wednesday that Jammu and Kashmir is the long outstanding issue on the United Nations agenda and Pakistan seeks its just and peaceful resolution in accordance with the UN resolutions and aspirations of Kashmiri people, hoping that the world body will play its due role in resolving the dispute.

The PM made these remarks while addressing a joint press conference along with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The Prime Minister said this is his strong desire to ease tension with india‚ start dialogue and address all outstanding issues including Jammu and Kashmir.

He said the escalation of tension at the Line of Control (LoC) is a matter of grave concern for us and the Secretary General. He however said Pakistan will continue to exercise restraint and act with responsibility. He hoped India will also reciprocate to reduce the prevailing tension. We want to deescalate tension through diplomacy.

Highlighting Pakistan’s efforts for bringing peace and stability in Afghanistan‚ the Prime Minister said that Pakistan wants peaceful and stable Afghanistan and will extend all possible assistance for an Afghan led and owned peace process.

Ban Ki Moon said the UN will continue to support Pakistan in the war against terrorism and promotion of tolerance.

Earlier, during a meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon in Islamabad, both the leaders agreed for further strengthen partnership in addressing regional and global issues.
