ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan has urged the international community not to pursue discriminatory policy on nuclear issue in South Asia, saying this will have impact on the strategic stability of the region.   

In his weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, the Foreign Office Spokesman Qazi Khalilullah termed the New York Times editorial “The Pakistan Nuclear Nightmare” on Pakistan’s nuclear arsenals as mistaken and based on prejudice.

   

The spokesman said that the editorial attempted to portray Pakistan as a country irresponsibly building the nuclear arsenals.

Furthermore, the foreign office spokesman also categorically stated that there is no footprint of Islamic State also known as Daesh on Pakistani soil. He said that Pakistan is fully aware of the threat posed by the outfit and the security forces are alert to it.

Qazi Khalilullah said that Pakistan’s military and security forces have also made it clear that the shadow of Daesh will not be tolerated on its land.

The spokesperson said that Pakistan is cooperating with the international community in combating terrorism.

“We support a coordinated approach against terrorism for complete eradication of the menace,” he said.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Islamic State group claimed responsibly for the series of coordinated terrorist attacks which rocked Paris on November 13, 2015.

The attacks which consisted of suicide bombings, mass shootings and hostage-taking occurred in various areas of the French Capital including outside the Stade de France national stadium, Bataclan concert hall and restaurants left at least 129 people dead and over 350 injured.

Qazi Khalilullah said that Pakistan condemned the Paris attacks at different levels and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Advisor on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi also visited the French embassy to record their condolence.

When asked about the rise of Islamophobia following the Paris attacks, the spokesperson said that terrorism cannot be associated with any religion.
