ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan has said that it is closely monitoring the unfolding situation in the Middle East and the eruption of hostilities between Israel and Palestinians.

“We are concerned about the human cost of the escalating situation,” said a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad on Saturday.Pakistan concerned at unfolding situation in Middle East

The statement said that Pakistan has consistently advocated for a two-state solution as the key to enduring peace in the Middle East, with a just, comprehensive and lasting solution to the Palestinian question anchored in international law and in line with relevant United Nations and OIC resolutions.

It said that a viable, sovereign and contiguous State of Palestine should be established on the basis of pre-1967 borders, with Al Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

“We call on the international community to come together for cessation of hostilities, protection of civilians and for a lasting peace in the Middle East,” the statement added.

In the Occupied Palestine, at least 160 Palestinians have been martyred and over 1,000 injured in Israel’s attacks on Gaza on Saturday.

On the other side, Hamas military wing Alqasim Brigades has launched a surprise attack in response to the Israeli attacks.

The Israeli government has confirmed that at least 40 Israelis have been killed while more than 750 Israelis have been injured in a surprise attack by Hamas fighters and al-Quds Brigades.

Meanwhile, the Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar Ul Haq Kakar said that he is heartbroken by the escalating violence in the Middle East which underscores the urgent need to address the Palestine Question.

“We urge restraint and protection of civilians,” he wrote on X.

The prime minister said that enduring peace in the Middle East lies in a two-state solution with a viable, contiguous, sovereign State of Palestine, founded on pre-1967 borders with Al Quds Al-Sharif at its heart.
