ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM) had benefitted over 832,858 deserving persons through its various people friendly programmes, Managing Director Barrister Abid Waheed Sheikh said on Monday.

Talking to the state-run news agency, he said the deserving had been benefitted from individual financial assistance, medical aid, education etc.

   

PBM is determined to provide wheel chair to each disable person. Special persons are also being provided white canes and hearing aid.

He said PBM had made its distribution of individual financial assistance system transparent by introducing biometrics system.

Over 84,403 people have been provided financial assistance through biometrics system. The main aim of introducing biometrics system was to ensure transparency.

He said the PBM had demanded Rs 7.5 billion in next budget to provide maximum benefit to the deserving.

PBM was running Pakistan Sweet Homes, Child Support Programme, Thalassemia Centre, Great Homes, Vocational Training Centres, National Centre for Rehabilitation of Child Labour, he added.

The MD said efforts to empower women would be expanded to across the country adding Thalassemia Centres would be established in Balochistan also.

Deserving are being admitted in National Centre for Rehabilitation of Child Labour to save them from child labour, he said adding that a total of 17,547 child labours were being imparted education in 158 Centres. 26,000 students had completed their education and 23,290 have been admitted in government schools for getting further education.

Abid Waheed Sheikh said over 35 Pakistan Sweet Homes were working across the country for providing boarding and other facilities to orphan children.

Children from 4 to 6 years are admitted in PSH. Each PSH accommodates 100 children however over 350 children are residing in two PSHs working in Karachi Company and H-9, Islamabad.

Two more PSHs are being established in Zhob and Quetta. Over 3,700 children are residing in PSHs.

Children are provided free education, residence and food facilities.

The Vocational Training Centres network would be expanded across the country, he said.

Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal helps the families for enabling them to impart education. Children send their 4 to 16 years old children schools. CSP is being run in 8 districts of the country. UNICEF was planning to expand the programme in more districts.

He said state of the art Thalassemia centres had been established in Islamabad and Chakwal.

Patients were being taken care free of charge and such centres would also be established in other cities of Balochistan, he added.

PBM has devised a plan to establish modern IT labs in Women Empowerment Centres in collaboration with UNICEF to ensure provision of modern facilities far flung areas.

He said the budget of PBM was Rs 4 billion.

PBM has recommended to enhance budget upto Rs 7.5 billion.

The suggestion if materialized would provide further opportunity to serve more deserving, he added.

The MD said PBM was planning providing modern facilities to deserving in collaboration with international organizations.

The prices of hepatitis and cancer would be reduced by 30 percent he added.

International organizations if held corporate social responsibility would help expanding PBM’s health related programmes, Abid Waheed Sheikh added.

He said access to PBM was very easy, as it had offices at district level.
