RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad met the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at Pakistan army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi on Friday.
The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that during the meeting, matters of mutual interest including overall regional security situation and the ongoing Afghanistan reconciliation process were discussed.
The US Special Envoy thanked Pakistan for facilitating the process towards the mutual objective of peace in the region.
Earlier in the day, Zalmay Khalilzad also met the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad, and during the meeting they agreed to continue consultation to make joint efforts for Afghan peace process.
In his remarks, Zalmay Khalilzad said that a peace agreement between the United States and the Taliban will pave the way for intra-Afghan dialogue, which will prove useful for peace and stability not only in Afghanistan but the entire region.
The foreign minister assured that Pakistan will continue supporting peace efforts in Afghanistan as a joint responsibility.
