Special Court’s decision against Pervez Musharraf received with ‘lot of pain and anguish’ by Pakistan armed forces: ISPR
General (retd) Pervez Musharraf

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) has said that the decision given by the Islamabad’s Special Court about the former Army Chief General (retd) Pervez Musharraf has been received with lot of pain and anguish by rank and file of Pakistan armed forces.

In its response which came after a Special Court in Islamabad found (retd) Pervez Musharraf guilty of high treason and handed him a death sentence under Article 6 of the Constitution, the Pakistan army’s media wing ISPR said that an ex-Army Chief, the Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee and President of Pakistan, who has served the Country for over 40 years and fought wars for the defense of the Country can surely never be a traitor.

The ISPR said that the due legal process seems to have been ignored including constitution of the Special Court, denial of fundamental right of self defence, undertaking individual specific proceedings and concluding the case in haste.

It further said that the armed forces of Pakistan expect that justice will be dispensed in line with the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The Special Court had reserved the judgment in the case on November 19.

Pervez Musharraf’s APML to challenge Special Court’s verdict

Meanwhile, Pervez Musharraf’s All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) has announced to file an appeal against the Special Court’s verdict, saying that the case against its leader “was formed on filmy grounds, where aiders and abettors were excluded from the case and its hearing and the former President (of Pakistan) was singled out in the high treason case, through the decision was taken after consultation with the Cabinet Members, Chief Ministers, Governors and Corps Commanders.”

“We show our reservations and concern against the one-sided decision by the Special Court, especially when the former President is under treatment and fighting against the deadly disease,” further said the press release issued by the APML General Secretary Mehrene Malik Adam.
