Pakistan army has successfully rescued both stranded mountaineers Shehroze Kashif and Fazal Ali who had been stuck at Nanga Parbat, the ninth highest mountain in the world at 8,126 metres.

The two mountaineers – Shehroze Kashif from Lahore and Fazal Ali from Shimshal of Gilgit-Baltistan’s Hunza district – summited Nanga Parbat on Tuesday morning. However, the duo was reported to have gone missing while on their way back.

In a statement on Thursday, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) has said that Pakistan army aviation helicopters/pilots have successfully rescued both stranded mountaineers from Nanga Parbat and landed at Jaglot near Gilgit.

Earlier in the day, the ISPR said that the ground rescue team had established physical contact with stranded mountaineer Shehroze Kashif at Camp 2 at 19000 feet at Nanga Parbat.

The ISPR said that Pakistan army aviation pilots would attempt to air lift stranded mountaineers exploiting small weather window available to rescue mountaineers from one of the difficult heights.
