KYIV, Ukraine: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa met the Minister of Interior of Ukraine Arsen Avakov in Kyiv on Wednesday, and stressed that there are many opportunities for bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and Pakistan.

In the meeting, the two dignitaries discussed issues of Pakistan-Ukraine bilateral cooperation in the field of training of National Guard of Ukraine (NGU) Officers, mutual recognition of driver’s licenses, exchange of information in the fight against transnational crime and terrorism.

“Military cooperation remains an important area of ​​bilateral cooperation between our Countries. It is an exchange of experience in the field of training your Officers of the NGU and the Armed Forces,” General Bajwa told the Ukrainian interior minister.

“In addition, our Country (Pakistan) can share the experience gained in the fight against terrorism,” he added.

The Pakistan Army Chief stressed that Islamabad seeks to deepen bilateral cooperation between the two Countries.

The Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov noted that the Ukrainian Ministry of Interior has launched a new aviation project, which provides for border control, firefighting, rapid aerial logistics, as well as cooperation with doctors under the Unified System of Aviation Security and Civil Protection of the Ministry.

To this end, Ukraine has signed a contract with Airbus for the supply of 55 new helicopters.

“We invite representatives of your (Pakistani) military to visit Ukraine, just when the training of MOI (Ministry of Internal Affairs) Units will be held with the participation of aviation. In addition, your military will be able to see how the pilots of the Ministry of Interior are trained,” Arsen Avakov told General Bajwa.

During the meeting, the two sides also agreed to settle migration issues and open tourism and business opportunities for the two Countries.

“If bilaterally desired, Ukraine and Pakistan can very quickly establish contacts between the ministries of internal affairs of our Countries, settle migration issues and open the way for tourists and businessmen,” Arsen Avakov said.
