Pakistan Earthquake Updates

ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: Pakistan Army has completed damage assessment based on Ariel and initial physical survey.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa directed to carry out immediate rescue operation in aid of the civil administration for victims of earthquake in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

In a statement issued by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) of Pakistan Armed Forces, damage assessment based on Ariel and initial physical survey has been completed.
As many as 22 people lost life including an army soldier while 160 people got injured as per civil administration record.
Three communication bridges near Jatlan damaged. Road Jatlan-Mangla settled at multiple locations rendering it unusable. Medium to minor damages to weak / old structures in Mirpur, Jatlan and Jarikas.

No damage to Mangla Dam reported.
Army teams continuing rescue & relief efforts in coordination with other stake holders. Army Engineers teams with equipment employed to undertake immediate repair work on road Jatlan- Mangla and bridges at Jatlan. Doctors and paramedics are providing necessary medical care. CMH mangla and Jhelum made available for all casualties. Rescue effort will continue through night till completion.

It may be mentioned that a powerful earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter Scale hit Pakistan on Tuesday afternoon.

The epicenter of the earthquake was 5 kilometer north of Jhelum while its depth was recorded as 10 kilometers, according to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre in Islamabad.

The tremors were felt in Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Daska, Peshawar, Chiniot, Mansehra, Batagram, Torghar, Mirpur (Azad Kashmir), Bhimber (Azad Kashmir), Jhelum, and Mandi Bahauddin.
