Monitoring Desk: COAS Gen Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa has reiterated that he would retire and leave his office after the completion of his second three-year term in two months, reports daily Dawn.

According to the newspaper, in an informal chat with guests at the Pakistani Embassy in Washington after the luncheon, the Chief also expressed his view that the military in Pakistan has distanced itself from politics and wants to remain so.

The army chief also reiterated his pledge to leave after the completion of his second three-year term in two months, saying that he would do as he promised earlier. He made these remarks at a lunch at the Pakistan Embassy in Washington.

It may be mentioned that Gen Bajwa is on a five-day visit to the United States where he has been meeting the military bureaucracy of America.

In his informal talk, COAS was of the view that effective diplomacy cannot be achieved without a strong economy.

According to Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) of Pakistan armed forces, Gen Bajwa called on retired General Lloyd James Austin III, Secretary of Defence; Jacob Jeremiah Sullivan, National Security Adviser; and Wendy Ruth Sherman, Deputy Secretary of State.

During the meetings, matters of mutual of interest, regional security situations,s and bilateral cooperation in various fields were discussed.
