Pakistan armed forces to befittingly respond to any Indian misadventure: ISPR

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) has said that Pakistan armed forces shall befittingly respond to any Indian misadventure or aggression.

In a statement on Thursday, the Director General ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor said that provocative statements and preparations for escalation along the Line of Control (LoC) by the Indian Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Bipin Rawat appear to be an effort as usual to divert the world attention from wide spread protests in India against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).

The widespread protests were sparked earlier in November 2019 in India after its Parliament passed a controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill, granting citizenship right to minorities from neighbouring Countries excluding Muslims.

The protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act are expected to attract large crowds in major Indian Cities on Thursday after large gatherings were banned in key regions and the Capital New Delhi in an attempt to clamp down on the demonstrations.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Indian Supreme Court rejected pleas for an immediate stay on the legislation but deferred the case to January 22, 2020.

The petitioners had said that the legislation was unconstitutional and counter to India’s cherished secular traditions.
