ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The opposition in the National Assembly on Wednesday ended boycott of proceedings of the lower house of the parliament over the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) issue after assurance of the government that the national flag career would not be privatized.

Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah informed the House that the joint opposition held a detailed meeting with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in the Speaker’s chamber where they were assured that no employee of PIA would be laid off and their rights would be protected.

He said it was decided in the meeting that an oversight committee of the parliament would be formed to overlook all affairs of PIA and listen to all the stakeholders for its improvement.

He said it was ensured to the joint opposition that there would be no change in statuesque of PIA.

PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi, ANP Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, JI’s Sahibzada Tariq Ullah, Shaikh Rashid Ahmed and others also spoke on the occasion and called for joint efforts to protect rights of employees, remove their apprehension and make improvement in PIA’s affair.

Earlier, the joint opposition, headed by Leader of the Opposition Syed Khurshid Shah continued their walk out over the government’s new tax measures and its reported plan to privatize the PIA for the 3rd consecutive day.

They were of the view that the government should take back the Presidential ordinance about PIA.
