CHENNAI: An 11-storey under-construction building collapsed in Chennai, the capital city of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, leaving one persons dead and 70 others trapped under the debris, the Indian media reported on Saturday.

“11 floors seem to have been completed so far. The building collapsed suddenly according to statement of eyewitnesses,” the Indian media quoted fire and rescue services joint director S Vijayasekar as saying.

Vijayasekar said that one worker has been rescued, adding that ambulances, doctors and paramedical personnel were on the spot. He further said that 12 fire tenders and 100 personnel were involved in the rescue work.
