PYONGYANG: North Korea has said that it has ordered its strategic rocket and long-range artillery units to enter combat posture targeting US military bases on Guam, Hawaii and mainland America after US bombers flew more sorties threatening the North.

“From this moment, the Supreme Command of the Korean People’s Army will be putting in combat duty posture No. 1 all field artillery units including long-range artillery units strategic rocket units that will target all enemy object in US invasionary bases on its mainland, Hawaii and Guam,” the North’s KCNA news agency said on Tuesday.

Pyongyang previously threatened nuclear attacks on the US and its ally South Korea. However, military experts believe the threats to be empty, since North Korea is several years from building a nuclear warhead or a missile capable of reaching the mainland US.

On the other hand, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei told reporters on Tuesday at a daily briefing that China hopes that all sides on the Korean peninsula can exercise restraint, after North Korea ordered its strategic rocket and long-range artillery units to be combat ready to target US military bases on Guam, Hawaii and mainland America.
