SportsNo Pak-India bilateral series in 2016: BCCI

NEW DELHI, India: There will be no bilateral cricket series between Pakistan and India in 2016, according to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Anurag Thakur.

“No series planned against Pakistan this year. India will only play against them in multi-national tournaments,” Thakur told Asian News International (ANI), New Delhi-based Indian news agency on Tuesday.

The two arch rivals had to play a bilateral series in December last year in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) according to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2014 between Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and BCCI.

However, the series could not take place after the violent protests by the Hindu extremist organization Shiv Sena.

The relations between the two counties improved recently at top leadership level but yet no positive development was witnessed in the field of cricket.

Now it is most likely that Pakistan and India will only play cricket against each other in T20 Asia Cup and ICC World Twenty20 in 2016.

The T20 Asia Cup will be held in Bangladesh from February 24 to March 6 whereas ICC World Twenty20 will take place in India from March 8 to April 3.

Last time Pakistan and India played a full bilateral series was in 2007. However, Pakistan, toured India for a short series in 2012.
