No official request yet made to UK govt involving MQM: Nisar

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said that Pakistan has made no formal request to the British government as yet on Karachi situation involving the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).

   

Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly on Thursday, the minister said that the matters regarding use of uncivilized language for security agencies, Rangers and armed forces came under discussion during his meeting with the British High Commissioner to Pakistan on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, in a meeting with the British envoy to Pakistan Phillip Barton, the interior minister handed over evidence against the MQM Chief Altaf Hussain to the British government urging it to stop the London-based politician from issuing threatening statements.

The interior minister also reportedly handed over a copy of the First Information Report (FIR) registered on the complaint of Sindh Ranges against the MQM chief on Monday. He urged the UK government to stop Altaf Hussain from issuing threatening statements against Pakistani security agencies and individuals from the British soil.

In his statement in the Lower House on Thursday, the interior minister said that the murder case of Dr Imran Farooq which is also under investigation came under discussion in a meeting with the British envoy.

The minister said that some progress on Dr Imran Farooq murder case has been made. He said that no political implications should be searched in this case.

Nisar said that it is responsibility of the Pakistan government that to provide, whatever proofs it has, to bring the killers of Dr Imran Farooq justice.
