White Cane Safety Day being observed today

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The White Cane Day is being observed across the world including Pakistan on Wednesday.

The people around the world celebrate the White Cane Safety Day on October 15 of each year since 1964.

The date is set aside to celebrate the achievements of people who are blind or visually impaired and the important symbol of blindness and tool of independence, the white cane.

In his message on the occasion, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has stressed enabling blind persons to play equal and active role in educational, economic, and social aspects of life like other citizens of the country.

The prime minister said that it is our moral as well as religious obligation to look after the visually impaired people and provide them all possible facilities and opportunities to take part in normal activities of life.
