Uzbekistan offers India for joint defence production plant

NewsUzbekistan offers India for joint defence production plant

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan: Uzbekistan has offered India to place on its territory a defense production complex.

It is worth mentioning here that the Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to India is on the card in last quarter of 2018.

According to the Russian media, the Indian State Minister for Foreign Affairs Mubashir Javed Akbar – who is currently on a four-day visit to Uzbekistan – held talks with his Uzbek Counterpart Abdulaziz Kamilov in Tashkent for production of heavy to medium military hardware in Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the possibility of expanding cooperation in defense.

Meanwhile, The Economic Times – an Indian daily newspaper – has called the proposal “unique” and opens great prospects for India in this region but specifies that the proposal is at an early stage of discussion.

If the Indian government decides to build a defense plant in Uzbekistan, it will be the first such enterprise in the republic. The development of cooperation in the defense sphere can be facilitated by the fact that both Countries use Russian weapons.

India exports military products to friendly Countries in South, South-East and West Asia and the Indian Ocean region, and is exploring opportunities to expand exports.

Cooperation with Uzbekistan and other Countries of Central Asia has intensified in 2015, and cooperation in the field of training and military medicine has been expanded with Tashkent.
