Uber Driver Shot Dead on duty
KARACHI, Pakistan: In an unfortunate incident, a young but a dedicated driver of Uber taxi service lost his life while resisting a robbery attempt in Karachi.
The incident occurred near Karachi’s Hassan Square area on last Sunday wherein a 25-year-old Uber driver named as Abdur Rehman was reportedly waiting for his next customer to arrive.
However, in the meantime, robbers tried to snatch his Cash and Cell phone at gunpoint. But as per sources claims, Abdur Rehman didn’t surrender to pressure and offered extreme resistance in the robbery attempt.
Therefore witnessing the uncontrolled situation, robbers shot the driver and fled the scene successfully.
The critically injured Uber driver was immediately taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical for medical treatment. However, he failed to survive.
As the report of the killing of Uber driver made its way in mainstream media in addition to police-initiated an investigation into it, the Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also took notice of it and asked the Provincial Inspector General of Police to apprehend the perpetrators within 48 hours.
The Uber driver Abdur Rehman reportedly became the first victim of robbery bid since the ride-hailing service arrived in Pakistan in March 2016. Though the Uber which offers its taxi services to customers via app marked its present in Country’s largest City Karachi six months later, ensuring reliable, safe and affordable rides.
