ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The train services remained suspended for hours on Thursday after Rawalpindi-bound Tezgam Express train caught fire near Liaquatpur City in Punjab’s Rahim Yar Khan District, resulting deaths of over 70 passengers.

Reports said that the Railways administration stopped the services at various Railways Stations while multiple trains especially Lahore-bound Karachi and Quetta trains were delayed for hours, causing much inconvenience to the people.

Reports said that Green Line Express arriving from Karachi was stopped at Rahim Yar Khan, Shah Hussain Express was stopped at Liaquatpur, and Tezgam Express was stopped at Khanpur.

As per reports, Lahore-bound Karachi Express was delayed for three hours, South and Express was delayed for five hours, Millat Express was delayed for 6 hours and 40 minutes, Sialkot-bound Allama Iqbal Express from Karachi was delayed for four hours, Khyber Mail Express was delayed for 1 hour and 40 minutes, and Farid Express was also delayed for 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Likewise, Pak Business Express was also delayed for three hours.

However, as per the Spokesperson of Pakistan Railways, now railway track is clear and train traffic has been restored on Up and Down track.

The Spokesperson said that Rescue Control Room has been established in Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur for information.

The Divisional Commercial Officer Pakistan Railway Multan Division Nabila Aslam told media that the rescue and relief operation has been completed.

Nabila Aslam told that a total of 207 passengers on board in the three economy coaches of Tezgam which caught fire during the incident.
