NewsSupreme Court takes suo moto notice of Faizabad sit-in

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As the standoff over the Faizabad sit-in still persists between the government and the protesters, the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday took sou moto notice of the issue and sought a detailed report from Secretary Defence and Secretary Interior in this regard.

The Supreme Court also issued notices to IG Islamabad, IG Punjab and Attorney General.

The Court asked from the concerned authorities that which initiatives had been taken for people’s rights.

Meanwhile, all efforts to end the sit-in at Faizabad Interchange hasn’t yielded any results so far and the Faizabad siege entered into 16th day today.

Earlier on Monday, the government and representatives of sit-in parties held another round of talks at Punjab House in Islamabad but their meeting remained again inconclusive as the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah didn’t agree to withdraw from its demand for the Law Minister Zahid Hamid’s resignation.

However an Ulema Dialogue Committee headed by Pir Hussain-ud-Din was formed to resolve the Faizabad sit-in issue amicably.

The Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal is of the view that the government wants to the end the issue in a peaceful manner, and the use of force will only be the last resort.

The minister also sought another 48 hours from Islamabad High Court (IHC) to resolve the sit-in issue at Faizabad.
