ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday suspended the lifetime disqualification of the former Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif, and allowed him to contest the forthcoming general elections.

Khawaja Asif had been disqualified for life under article 62 (1)(f) of the Constitution in Iqama Case by a three-member larger bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) headed by Justice Athar Minallah on April 26.
However, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) senior leader filed a petition in the Supreme Court on May 2, challenging his disqualification as declared by the IHC.
Today, a three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial declared the IHC’s verdict as null and void.
In his review petition, Khawaja Asif had argued that his bank account and Iqama had already been disclosed before the petition against him was filed in the Court.
