NewsState news agencies of Pakistan, Romania sign news cooperation agreement

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan: The Romanian National News Agency (AGERPRESS) and Pakistan’s state-run news agency Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) on Thursday signed the news cooperation agreement at the Ministry for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage in Islamabad.

The Managing Director of the APP Masood Malik and Romanian Ambassador to Pakistan Emilian Lon signed the agreement and exchange documents.

The Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rasheed, the Federal Information Secretary Syed Imran Gardezi and the Director General External Publicity Wing Shafqat Jalil were also present on the occasion.

Under the agreement, both sides on the basis of interactive mutual reciprocity would cooperate for the free exchange of news services, photo services and video services.

Established in March 1889 as the Telegraph Agency of Romania but later replaced with the AGERPRES, it is the oldest and first autonomous new agency in Romania and has been serving as a “fast and accurate service of all general or special interest news”. Having a membership of European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA), the Association of Balkan News Agencies (ABNA-SA) and Black Sea Association of National News Agencies, AGERPRES has partnered with over 40 news agencies worldwide.

The news cooperation agreement between APP and AGERPRESS is part of a series of cooperative initiatives, Pakistan has been taking since it tilted its foreign policy closer to the Eurasian region particularly Central Asia and Eastern Europe.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
