Shabbar Zaidi resigns as Chairman FBR

NewsShabbar Zaidi resigns as Chairman FBR

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Syed Shabbar Zaidi has tendered his resignation from the post, the media reports said on Tuesday.

But the Chairman FBR has now dismissed such reports, saying that he hasn’t resigned and is on leave for medical issues.

Shabbar Zaidi had earlier gone on an indefinite leave after he suffered health issues, and was reportedly receiving medical treatment.

However, according to some sources, certain differences had developed between Syed Shabbar Zaidi and the government economic team for quite some time, which eventually caused the former’s resignation.

Though the FBR termed such reports baseless and fabricated while the Chairman FBR himself in a tweet on January 11 had stated that he received treatment at the Gastro Department of the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) in Karachi.

Syed Shabbar Zaidi was appointed as the Chairman FBR on May 6, 2019 to replace Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan.
