Russian Ambassador Alexey Yurevich Dedov called on COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa

Rawalpindi, Pakistan: Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Alexey Yurevich Dedov called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa here at GHQ on Tuesday.

According to a press statement issued by Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) of Pakistan Armed Forces, matters related to regional security and enhanced military cooperation particularly in defence and training were discussed during the meeting.

It may be mentioned that Pakistan and Russia are collaborating in defence sector and Pakistan has shown its interest in buying military hardware from Russia and Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu visited Islamabad in 2014 for drafting a new Pak-Russia collaboration in military sector. Pakistan participated in Russian war games and also attended Army exhibitions.

Indian Prime Minister Modi visited Kremlin last week to celebrate 70th anniversary of Indo-Russo diplomatic ties and Russian President Putin announced his support to India for her permanent seat in UNSC and membership for NSG. Authorities in Pakistan are keenly watching situation regarding latest developments in Indo-Russian relations.

The civil leadership of India, Pakistan and Russia would meet in Astana this week during Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Astana Summit starting from June 8, 2017.
