PESHAWAR, Pakistan: At least 18 people have been killed and scores of other injured including seven in coal mine incident in Orakazai Agency during the torrential rain that had struck the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) in last two days.

Director General FATA Disaster Management Authorit, Fayyaz Ali Shah told APP by phone on Monday that rescue teams have completed the rescue operation into the coalmine tragedy that claimed about seven lives and injuries ten others in Kurez area of Lower Orakzai Agency on Saturday night.

Fayaz said that coalmine has been cleared after retrieval of the bodies and injured. About the compensation to be made to victims, he said Rs three lakhs would be given to each deceased, Rs two lakh to each permanently disabled and Rs one lakh to minor injured.

To a Question, Fayaz Ali Shah said 18 people were killed in rain related incidents in tribal regions including five in Khyber Agency, three in Bajaur Agency, seven in Orakzai, one in Mohmand Agency and two in FR Bannu. Most of the casualties reported due to roof collapse in parts of the Fata, he added.

The army troopers and FC personnel participated in the coal mine clearance operation with the help of heavy machinery and medical support.

The injured were provided medical treatment at Kalaya Hospital in Lower Orakzai Agency and DHQ hospital Kohat. The dead and majority of injured belong to Shangla district.
