LAHORE, Pakistan: The Punjab government under “Punjab Growth Strategy 2018” will provide demand driven skill training to two million youth of the province through long term and short term Skills Development Programmes during next three years.

As many as 5,55,000 people will be provided skill training through TEVTA, PVTC and PSDF and private skill training institutes, this year.

Punjab Minister for Labour and Human Resource, Raja Ashfaq Sarwer while presiding over a high level skills development steering committee meeting at Planning & Development Auditorium said this here on Thursday.

Minister Industries, Ch. Muhammad Shafique, Minister for Zakat & Ushr, Malik Nadeem Kamran, Chairman P&D Jehanzab Khan, Chairman TEVTA Irfan Qaiser Sheikh, Secretaries of Industries, Labour, Livestock and related departments along with representatives from Punjab Vocational Training Council (PVTC), Punjab Skills Development Fund (PSDF) and international consultancy company City & Gilds also attended the meeting.

The meeting was informed that average annual requirement of 5,55,000 persons’ training was ascertained for the next three years.

Therefore, average annual target for TEVTA will be 1,40,000 for PVTC 1,33,000,PSDF 60,000,different departments 81,000, while TEVTA Punjab affiliated private skill training institutes 41,000 and other private institutes will provide skill training to 93,000 people to achieve the total target of 5,48,000.

The meeting was informed that Health department will provide skill training to its 62,072 employees, Higher Education will provide training to 298,814 people, Livestock department will provide training to 160,800 villagers, Agriculture department will provide skill training to 30,638 farmers while Mines & Mineral Department will provide training to 4,720 mines workers.

Minister Labour Raja Ashfaq Sarwer apprised the meeting that the purpose of this training program was to enhance the capacity and quality of provincial work force by providing them latest skill training according to the demands of local and international labour market.
