PTI ends boycott of Geo & Jang group

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has ended the boycott of Geo TV and the Jang Group for allegedly helping the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) emerge victorious in the 2013 general elections.

It was revealed by a leading Pakistani journalist and anchorperson Syed Talat Hussain thought his twitter account. However, there is no confirmation of this news yet.

The PTI Chairman Imran Khan had announced in May last year that he and his party would boycott Geo/Jang group because the media group had been involved in rigging during the general elections held in 2013, adding that the boycott would continue until the group apologized.

“PTI has decided to boycott Geo for its role in rigging (the elections) and no PTI representative will appear on Geo or subscribe to Jang Group newspapers till such time as the TV channel apologises for its role in the rigging of the general elections,” Imran Khan had said at a press conference in Islamabad on May 2 last year.

Later in August last year, the Geo/Jang group, one of the biggest media houses of the country, had sent a legal notice to Imran Khan for leveling baseless and false allegations against it.

The notice had sought apology from Imran Khan for embarking on an offensive campaign and hurling unfounded allegations against Geo/Jang group. It had claimed Rs500 million in damages for defaming the group.
