MONITORING DESK: The Indian peace activist Praveen Singh has once again announced to carry out Tiranga March from January 1, 2018 in various regions of northern Indian State of Uttarakhand as part of efforts to have Gairsain as the Permanent Capital of the State.

In a statement, Praveen Singh said that a Tiranga March for “Gairsain as a Permanent Capital and Say no to liquor and right to employment,” will be held in Gairsain on January 1, in Rishikesh on January 21, and in Srinagar on January 26. He said that subsequently Tiranga March will also be carried out in Karnprayag, Devprayag, Chamoli, Gopeshwar, Gairsain, Dwarhaat, Chaukhutiya, Bageshwar, Almoda, Nainital, and in the whole Uttarakhand.

Praveen Singh also asked the people to abstain from Alcohol and on the occasion of New Year, raise their voices for “One State, One Capital”.

“It is humble request to you all that the person who wants Gairsain as a capital and who respects the Devbhumi and Woman power (Matri shakti), please abstain from Alcohol and on the occasion of New Year give a message to the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat ji enthusiastically, “One State, One Capital”,” Praveen Singh said.

Earlier in December 2017, Praveen Singh along with other activists were apprehended by the Indian police from Gairsain where they were sitting on a hunger strike, seeking Gairsain as Uttarakhand’s Permanent Capital, a Department for prohibition of liquor in the State, and declaration of Right to Employment a Fundamental Right.

Praveen Singh said that we had agitated through November 21 Padyatra, again from December 7 a hunger strike in Gairsain and then after police torture, the Uttarakhand Chief Minister sent the Education Minister Sh. Arvind Pandey to get the hunger strike ended and consequently that hunger strike ended with the condition that the current State government would declare Gairsain a Permanent Capital of Uttarakhand before the commencement of Summer Session in Vidhan Sabha and would take steps to check alcohol uses in Uttarakhand; otherwise, with the commencement of Summer Session, hunger strikes, road jam and protest march would resume.

“We are happy to inform that because of God grace this movement once again been resurrected and made the people of Uttarakhand awaken. Best thing is that this movement has successfully brought the leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress and Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) under one banner,” Praveen Singh said.
