ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistani high-altitude mountaineer Samina Baig will be appointed as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) national goodwill ambassador for Pakistan next week.

In this regard, a signing ceremony will be held at Serena Hotel in Islamabad on February 26, 2018 wherein the Country Director UNDP Pakistan Ignacio Artaza, the Austrian Ambassador to Pakistan Dr Brigitta Blaha, and the UN Resident Coordinator Neil Buhne would also be present.

The 27-year-old Samina Baig climbed Mount Everest – the World’s Highest Peak measuring 8,848 meters from the sea level – in 2013 and then all Seven Summits by 2014.

Samina Baig is the first and only Pakistani woman to climb Everest and the Seven Summits. She is also the youngest Muslim woman to climb Mount Everest, having done so at the age of 21.

“Samina Baig (also) set the record of capturing the seven summits in record age of 23 years and record time. We had the greatest honor to hoist our green flag on the seven Summits,” said Samina Baig’s brother Mirza Ali who accompanied her on the seven Summits adventure on his Facebook page.

Prior to Samina Baig, Pakistani Tennis Superstar Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Popular Singer Hadiqa Kiani were also appointed as the UNDP national goodwill ambassadors for Pakistan.

"We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation.
