NewsPakistan not looking for financial assistance from US: Army Chief

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has said that we are not looking for any material or financial assistance from the United States but trust, understanding and acknowledgement of our contributions.

In a meeting with the US Ambassador to Pakistan David Hale who met him at the army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi on Wednesday, the COAS said that peace in Afghanistan is as important for Pakistan as for any other country.

“We have done a lot towards that end and shall keep on doing our best, not to appease anyone but in line with our national interest and national policy,” the COAS said according to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The COAS also said that collaboration and synergy of effort between all stakeholders is the key to success to bring this long drawn war in Afghanistan to its logical conclusion.

The US ambassador briefed the COAS about new US Policy.

David Hale said that the United States values Pakistan’s role in the war against terror and is seeking cooperation from Pakistan to resolve the Afghan issue.

The above mentioned meeting followed the Speech of the US President Doland Trump made on Tuesday in which he laid down the US strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia; and he once again accused Pakistan of harboring terrorist organizations, and urged Islamabad to demonstrate its commitment for peace.
