ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan Emilian Ion on Wednesday described Pakistan and Romania as strategic partners and emphasized on enhanced trade relations for good bilateral relationship.

“I believe trade relations are prerequisite for good bilateral relationship,” the envoy said while speaking at the “Meet the Press” held at the National Press Club (NPC) in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The President NPC Shakeel Anjum, Secretary NPC Imran Yaqoob, Finance Secretary Ishaque Chaudhry and other members also attended the event while Tazeen Akhtar performed task as a host.

Emilian Lon, who is also dean of European diplomatic Corp in Pakistan, termed musical and culture relations very important and said that both the countries should utilize maximum opportunities for enhancing cultural relationship.

The envoy said that Romania-Pakistan friendship association will hold more cultural events in the future.

The ambassador said that the Romanian Defence Production Ministry is also enhancing defence production relations with Pakistan.

“Both countries are closely working for defence equipment import and export,” Emilian lon said.

Emilian lon said that being a member of NATO and European Union, Romania was active to grant EU Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) Plus status to Pakistan.

Talking about the Pak-Romania cooperation, the envoy said that the two countries are doing very important projects. He said that Kohat Cement Plant was also established with the support of Romania in the past.

The ambassador said that Romania exports chemical to Pakistan but in the meantime, imports cotton from the South Asian Country.

The envoy said that like many Romanians who are living in Pakistan, Pakistanis can go to Romania easily for study as well. He said that around 120 to 150 Pakistani people get visa for Romania monthly. However, he added, some Pakistanis try to disappear illegally after receiving visa.

Emilian lon said that Romanian language is easy while visa is also not a problem for business community.

The Romanian ambassador also urged media to play a positive and constructive role as media role is very important for development of any country. He said that media develops impression of any country.

In the end, the envoy termed the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) a good project for Pakistan.
