New fast train to be introduced from Margallah to Karachi, NA told

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Assembly was informed on Monday that a new fast train would shortly be introduced from Margallah in Islamabad to Karachi.

During the question hour in the Lower House of the Parliament in Islamabad on Monday, the Parliamentary Secretary for Railways Dewan Ashiq Hussain Hokhari told the house that Mehran Express between Karachi-Mirpurkhas is also being restored.

The parliamentary secretary for railways said that the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project could not be revived due to encroachments and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is reluctant to fulfil its commitments about financial assistance due to delays.

The House was informed that the KCR project does not fall within the domain of the Pakistan Railways but it is ready to assist the provincial government for its revival.

The National assembly was further informed that the KCR project in Karachi and Orange Train project in Lahore are totally different and have no linkage with each other.

New Islamabad Int’l Airport likely to be completed by October 2016

The Minister-in-Charge of Aviation Division told the house that the remaining work of New Islamabad International Airport is likely to be completed by October next year.

The House was told that it would be a state-of-the-art facility having five level of security and efficient operational benefits, more international airlines are likely to commence their operations with consequential increase in international estimations.

Moreover, the Minister for Education and Professional Training informed the House that 44 government officials and 106 faculty members and employees of universities were sent abroad for higher education during the last two financial years.

In reply to another question, he said that 6,905 foreign students were studying in Pakistani universities as of last year.
