ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Book Foundation (NBF) would arrange a four-day annual National Book Fair at Pak-China Friendship Centre in Islamabad from April 6-9, 2018.

In this regard, the Prime Minister’s Advisor on National History and Literary Heritage (NH&LH) Irfan Siddiqui formally gave the approval in a meeting held in Islamabad on Tuesday to discuss the arrangements for National Book Fair, as part of the NHLH Division’s activities to mark National Book Day on April 22.

National Book Fair would display over 120 book stalls by the prominent book publishers from across the Country as well from China, Iran Turkey, Egypt, Tunis, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and Oman.

The four-day activity would feature a number of literature friendly activities including launching ceremonies of books, literary sessions, dialogues and discussion programmes and special programmes for children.

“Promotion of book reading culture is the most effective way to instill human values of peace, love and brotherhood among the people,” Irfan Siddiqui said while speaking during the meeting.

Irfan Siddiqi said arranging National Book Fair every year was an excellent tradition of NBF which would be carried forward this year too with a rekindled spirit.

The advisor hoped the book fair would serve as a treat for book lovers of the Federal Capital and surroundings who would be able to purchase books of their choice on discounted rates as well as participate in a number of book related activities.

The Managing Director NBF Dr. Inam ul Haq Javed briefed Irfan Siddiqui about the proposed arrangements for the National Book Fair in detail.

Inam ul Haq said around 4,00,000 book lovers visited the three-day National Book Fair last year while the books worth Rs 20 million were sold.

However, he added, in 2018 too, a huge number of visitors were expected to participate in this festival. He said NBF was striving to make best possible arrangements for extending maximum facilitation to the visitors.

Irfan Siddiqui directed the officials to ensure special arrangements for women and children who will be visiting the National Book Fair. He also formed different committees for supervising the arrangements of this mega event.
