LAHORE, Pakistan: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday arrested the Punjab Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz after the Lahore High Court (LHC) rejected his interim bail in corruption cases.

The LHC’s two-member bench headed by Justice Muzahir Ali Akbar Naqvi announced the verdict, following which, the NAB Officials took the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hamza Shahbaz into their custody from the Court room.

Strict security arrangements had been in place in and outside the Lahore High Court before the arrival of Hamza Shahbaz.

Hamza Shahbaz is facing inquiries in cases related to Punjab Saaf Pani Company, Ramzan Sugar Mills, money laundering and assets beyond means.

It’s the second arrest of a top leader of the opposition parties within two days as earlier on Monday, the former President and the Co-Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zadari was also held by NAB after a two-member bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) comprising Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Kiani turned down his bail plea in fake bank accounts case.
