ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Assembly was told on Thursday that Muzaffargarh having a population of over 45 lacs, neither has a University nor a Sub ­Campus of any recognized University.

In reply to a question, the Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood told the House in written that to fill the gap Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), Multan was requested to submit a feasibility report for establishment of its Sub Campus at Muzaffargarh, a District in Southwestern Punjab.

The minister told that BZU has submitted the report for the Establishment of its Sub­Campus at an estimated cost of Rs 1927.225 million.

Shafqat Mahmood told that the project is required to be included in Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP 2019­20) for implementation.

To another question, the education minister confirmed that from 2004 to 2017, Synthetic Fiber Development and Application Center (SFDAC), affiliated with Hamdard University and working under the Ministry of Commerce and Textile in Islamabad, had been granting the textile degrees.

The minister told that incompliance to the direction of Prime Minister of Pakistan, the SFDAC was liquidated and handed over to National Textile University (NTU) in 2017, and now it is functioning as NTU Karachi campus.

Shafqat Mahmood told confirmed that Textile degree holders, who received Textile degree till 2017 from SFDAC, are under the attention of NTU. He told that the communication of Director, NTU Karachi Campus is in progress with Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) to resolve the matter of those degree holders who have not been awarded registration by the PEC.

The minister told that the NTU is in process with PEC and Hamdard University to resolve the matter at earliest.
