ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: In a bid to register opposition against the execution of Mumtaz Qadri, a wheel jam strike accompanied by protests will be carried out on Friday in Rawalpindi and Islamabad where the administration has imposed section 144 to avoid any untoward incident.
Sources said that the Islamabad administration has imposed section 144 in the Federal Capital and its suburb areas following an announcement that protests as well as wheel jam strike will be observed in the twin cities.
They said that according to an announcement by the concerned, a protest rally will take place after Friday prayers from Sadiqabad area of Rawalpindi to Bhara Kahu, a suburb of Islamabad where Mumtaz Qadri originally belonged to and was laid to rest.
Mumtaz Qadri was hanged till death at the adiala jail in Rawalpindi on February 29 after he was convicted of assassinating former Punjab Governor Salman Taseer in January 2011.
Qadri had been assigned the duty of protecting the governor as a member of Punjab Elite Police; however, he killed Salman Taseer for his alleged involvement in committing blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
Mumtaz Qadri’s funeral prayers was offered at the Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi on Tuesday in which thousands of people participated. Later, his dead body was brought to Bhara Kahu amid tight security for burial in a nearby village.
