ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Chief Meteorologist Muhammad Riaz on Saturday said onset of monsoon is very likely in the country during upcoming week.   

Talking to private news channel, he said that monsoon rains to enter Pakistan from the upper parts of the country such as Kashmir, upper Punjab and then expand through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA.

“Monsoon rains are likely to start from upper parts of the country that will spread towards central and southern parts of the country during the week,” he told.

He said during first spell of monsoon, widespread rains with isolated heavy thundershowers, accompanied by strong gusty winds are expected in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FATA and Kashmir.

“Scattered rains/dust-thundershowers are also expected in Sindh and Balochistan during the coming week,” he added.

To a question, he said many rain-spells would continue till Eidul Fitr. The country would experience heavy monsoon rains, whose intensity would increase gradually.

He said in Sindh monsoon rains would start during the first week of July. “The province along with Karachi would receive heavy rains”, he added.
