LAHORE, Pakistan: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday while strongly condemning the incident of minor girl’s rape and murder in Kasur demanded severe punishment for the culprits.

Eight-year-old Zainab was allegedly raped before being strangled to death in Kasur.

While her parents were in Makkah to perform Umrah, the eight-year-old Zainab was abducted last Thursday in Road Kot Area of Kasur where she went to a Tuition Centre. She was allegedly raped and later strangled to death. Her dead body was found after six days near Peerowala Road.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the incident today and sought a report of the incident immediately from the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police.

Following the direction of Shahbaz Sharif, the police expedited the action in Kasur, and apprehended nearly 60 suspects.

In a statement, the Punjab government Spokesman said that arrest of culprits is very necessary. “We hope culprits will be arrested with the help of CCTV footage,” he said.

The Spokesman said that incidents like this are happening in Kasur frequently. He said that we know very well about the unrest among people. He said that the provincial government can’t step back from its responsibilities.

The Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari termed the brutal rape and murder of a eight-year-old girl Zainab in Kasur as shocking and a slap on the face of Sharifdom, which continues to ignore such ghastly incidents.

“Ten incidents of minors’ rape and murders had been reported in Kasur and eleven in Sheikhupura alone last year. It seems some parts of Punjab have been turned into hell for the children, especially the girls but Sharif brothers appear to have abandoned their duty as rulers,” the PPP Chairman said in a statement issued today.

The Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan said “The condemnable & horrific rape & murder of little Zainab exposes once again how vulnerable our children are in our society. This is not the first time such horrific acts have happened. We have to act swiftly to punish the guilty & ensure that our children are better protected.”

The former Secretary General PTI Jahangir Khan Tareen also wrote on twitter “I’m stunned and deeply grieved to learn of the abuse & murder of a 7 years old angel in Kasur. The low life sick person/s responsible for this heinous act must be given the worst possible punishment, so that no one dares repeating the same.”

The picture of Zainab’s dead body also went viral on social media and #JusticeForZainab and Kasur became the two top trend on Twitter.

Prior to Zainab, 11 other minor girls including Eimaan Fatima, Fouzia, Noor Fatima, Sanna, Asma and Laiba were also kidnapped in Kasur last year, and eventually met the same fate.

Separately, a complete shutter down strike is being observed in Kasur today against the alleged rape and murder of Zainab.
