NewsLong queues of vehicles on Kashmir Highway, traffic blocked for hours

As per old saying that nothing comes easily in your way when you target something big, dwellers of Twin Cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have to deal with very-much-like fate almost on daily basis since the government has initiated multiple development projects in the Federal Capital.

The ongoing development projects which mostly are related to construction of roads, flyovers and underpasses have regularly been causing traffic blockage in Islamabad for months, and eventually commuters have to remain stuck in traffic for hours.

Among various ongoing transport-related development projects in Islamabad are Peshawar Mor to New Islamabad Airport Metro Bus project and Signal-free Islamabad Expressway project.

Both these projects are underway on City’s busiest roads – Kashmir Highway and Islamabad Expressway.

Though Islamabad residents routinely suffer inconvenience because of construction works on various roads but these days when a number of people are leaving the Capital to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha in their native towns, traffic-related problems have even further escalated.

One of such scenes was witnessed on Thursday afternoon when a long queue of vehicles crawled on multiple-lane Kashmir Highway leading towards motorways.

Talking to Dispatch News Desk (DND) news agency on phone, a commuter Asad Haroon who was traveling to Lahore in his Car to celebrate forthcoming Eid with his family told that he along with hundreds of travelers had been stuck for hours at Golra Sharif Morr in several kilometres long queue of vehicles.

Asad told that an underpass is being constructed at Golra Sharif Morr; therefore, a very narrow way has been left for vehicles to pass through. He told that they have been waiting for hours to get the road clear for traffic flow but it does’t seem happening very soon.

Another commuter Abdul Shakoor said that it’s a matter of pleasure that the incumbent government is carrying out development work but at the same, he added, the authorities must ensure that it doesn’t cause inconvenience to the general public.
