Official Response by Kia Pakistan over the Rio Price Rumour
Opportunity or Adversity for Kia Rio in Local Market
No doubt that RIO is equipped with international standard features but the issue is that if Kia wants to succeed in Pakistan, they have to offer such a car loaded with all functions in a price bracket of 1.3 – 16 million. Kia knows better what they want to do and at what price they want to introduce this car but in our opinion, anything above 1.6 million leaves the buyer with multiple options like Toyota Acqua or Prius, N1 etc. This variant of Kia is good to beat lower end models of Suzuki like Cultus or WagonR or Honda City.
Kia Rio Review
Kia Rio Pictures
Of course, the new Kia Rio carries the main distinguishing feature of any current Kia: the tiger nose. The typical barbecue can be found from large to small again and is considered as a link between the series – the family face so. Otherwise, the look looks more adult than before: The headlights are now a little smaller and look sharpened by the U-shaped projection lenses. The daytime running light is now in LED and has also been integrated. For a sharp look ensures the pulled down bonnet.
Overall, the front looks pleasantly wide, so that a self-confident appearance arises. Laterally, the fourth generation of the Kia Rio restrained, so a timeless impression arises. Only a long shoulder line, from the upper edge of the grill at the bow to the rear modeled the side view something. Here, the length of the small car is demonstrated: it measures just over four meters. He has the measure of a Golf II and belongs in the compact class.
The design of the new Kia Rio has been carefully refined
At the rear, it shows that Kia has a claim that does not seem obvious. Starting as a brand, which was mainly defined by the price, the Koreans want to face the premium competition with increasingly attractive designs and high-quality interiors. So it is not by chance that the rear end of compact models of the Premium League recalls. The arrow-shaped taillight graphics provide a little pinch of dynamics.
But since we were already in the interior: Here, the Kia Rio really shine. Pleasant materials, a tidy look and a good amount of space promise the Koreans. At least as far as the look is concerned, I can only agree – like a cheap small car, the Rio is certainly not. The reduced look is ensured by the bundling of functions in the new infotainment system, which now also offers connectivity services. The driver-oriented alignment of the dashboard provides another shot of dynamics in the interior. Another parallel to a well-known, Bavarian premium manufacturer.
As far as feel and space are concerned, Paris will show that the new Kia Rio will be presented to the world public from 1 to 16 October. On the prices and motorizations, Kia is also still covered. But it seems likely that they will be at the level of their predecessor.
The Koreans want to make VW seem really hard. Coinciding with the refreshed Golf Hyundai sends the new i30 into the race, and calls him directly to the “new people’s car”, ie the new Volkswagen. And even before the next Polo from Wolfsburg in the world will be released in the course of the year, the Hyundai sister presents Kia with the Rio in the small car class. From February 11, the new generation is in the showroom and attracts with prices of 11,690 euros onwards and the well-known seven-year warranty.
At least since the facelift almost two years ago, the Rio looks really good, and even today, the now older generation looks even more modern. Nevertheless, the designers have managed to make a fresh impression of the new edition. Thanks to the long and high bonnet, the Kia, which has grown only minimally to 4.07 meters, looks busier. Clear, straight lines and the no-frills tail make him more self-confident and mature.
In the spacious interior of the Koreans presented tidier and higher quality than before and, more importantly, the chassis has grown up. If the predecessor sometimes hobbled and rumbled over the asphalt in youthful carelessness, the new car is noticeably more balanced and comfortable. The same applies to the steering, which works more precisely than before;
Kia Global Variants – Price and Specifications:
All this, however, is reflected in the prices: Although scores the still favorable base version, including onboard computer, light sensor, stop-start system, radio with a USB port and multifunction steering wheel, but is the entry-level for the 62nd kW / 84 hp 1.2-liter suction gasoline available. The likewise free-breathing 1.4er with 73 kW / 99 hp starts only at 15,090 euros, the new one-liter three-cylinder turbocharged and optionally 74 kW / 100 hp or 88 kW / 120 hp even at 16,890 or 19,290 euros. The latter then drives with a whole range of optional extras such as emergency brake and lane departure warning, cruise control, automatic climate control, seat and steering wheel heating, rear parking sensors and rearview camera – far from the VW Polo is priced but then no longer removed. If you want to have the easy-to-use navigation system (790 euros) with a 7-inch touchscreen on the center console, you need at least the two-highest equipment. It is also only available for the limited edition Dream Edition on limited edition editions.
After all, even the weakest engine is different than usual combined with the best equipment and who does not depend on dynamic driving performance, it is well served. By five-speed transmission, the four-cylinder can easily keep in good spirits and at 4,000 tours fitting 122 Nm of torque are sufficient for city trips and smaller trips to the surrounding area. After all, just over 1,100 kilograms have to be moved. With a maximum of 173 km / h, the base Rio can even be seen on the highway initially, where he runs out of steam even at low gradients. The consumption of the nipple is Kia with 4.8 liters.
Somewhat more confident is the new, smooth-running three-cylinder, which, however – typically for a turbo engine – also quite greed for high speeds. Forced ventilation gives him 172 Newton meters at 1,500 rpm, but he really gets into the gears only when the needle of the tachometer penetrates into higher climes. In view of the revving joy of the Motörchens this is not a problem, and then the pithy sound makes you want to turn down a gear more often. The standard consumption of four and a half liters is then history.
The 100-hp version comes with a manual five-speed gearbox, the 120 has Kia donated a translation more. There is also an automatic, but only for the 99-horsepower petrol engine – and only with four gears, which makes the consumption abruptly from 5.0 to 6.1 liters fast. For all those who do not want a gasoline engine, Kia also has a diesel with 1.4 liters and 66 kW / 90 hp ready (in the special model Dream Team provisionally with 55 kW / 75 hp), although at the EU Consumption test a 3 comes in front of the comma, but with prices from 20.190 euros probably will not play a major role in the future. The new Kia Rio is 15 millimeters longer and at the same time 5 millimeters flatter than its predecessor. The wheelbase was extended by 10 millimeters. This is noticeable in the space available. In a first seat test, the Rio proves to be airy and spacious. Even in the back seat, you can sit comfortably without permanently getting knee pain.
The cockpit gets by with very few switches. Only the multifunction steering wheel acts – as with most Kia models – quite cluttered. The center console dominates – at least in the higher trim levels – up to seven inches large touchscreen display. The infotainment system includes both Apple and Android smartphones. The materials used are of high quality, the workmanship is good. Even the doors sound conspicuously full when closing.
KIA RIO: One of the best selling model globally
Among other things, one of the new downsizing engines introduced by the carmaker last year is used under the hood. The one-liter three-cylinder turbo gasoline engine with direct injection is available in two power levels with 73 kW / 100 hp and 88 kW / 120 hp.In addition, two suckers with 1.2 and 1.4 liters of displacement and 62 kW / 84 hp or 73 kW / 100 hp are in the program. In addition, Kia offers a 1.4-liter turbodiesel, which is available in two variants with 52 kW / 70 hp and 66 kW / 90 hp.
For the first time in this segment, an autonomous emergency brake assist (AEB) with pedestrian detection is installed in the new Rio. Such a system is a prerequisite for a five-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash test.
