Khyber Train Safari to hit track on January 13PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) in collaboration with Pakistan Railways will operate the Khyber Train Safari from Peshawar to Attock Khurd on January 13 (Sunday), with an aim to boost tourism in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Besides witnessing the astonishing and eye-catching views throughout 69-kilometer long journey, the passengers will view the Old Victorian Railway Station built around 1880 at Attock Khurd.

In addition that, passengers will also be entertained with kite flying, up hill race, camel ride, fold music, tug of war, band display, archery and lunch box.

The British-era train was closed down in 2008 due to militancy and the flashfloods which washed away railway tracks.

But in December last year, the TCKP and Pakistan Railways agreed on the revival of the historic Khyber Steam Safari Train Service to boost tourism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Talking to media, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister for Sports and Tourism Atif Khan said that his department was in contact with the Pakistan Railways, Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps (FC) for the resumption of Khyber Train Safari Service and opening of the historic Forts along railway tracks for tourists.

The minister said that he would meet the FC Inspector General about the opening of Balahisar and other Forts to tourists.

Tourism Department arranges one-day trip to Takht-i-Bahi

Meanwhile, the TCKP has also arranged a one-day trip from Peshawar to Takht-i-Bahi to explore the Budhist Heritage Trail.

The trip would begin from the Tourist Information Centre, Peshawar Museum at 10:00 am on January 19.

The TCKP is charging Rs 500 per person for the package which includes transport from Peshawar Museum to Takht-i-Bahi and back to Peshawar Museum, and traditional lunch.
