Kabul decides to offer Peace Talks to Taliban

Kabul, Afghanistan: Compelling by ground realities, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani is going to offer Peace Talks to Taliban.

President Ashraf Ghani and US National Security Adviser Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster took a firm position of “No Talks with Taliban” in past after Balkh massacre but now Presidential team has realized that Peace Talks are inevitable with Taliban as Afghan National Army is losing ground and several provinces and hundreds of districts had been fallen to Taliban in last two months. Kabul Process Conference on June 6 will launch “Kabul Initiative” for peace and President Ashraf Ghani would offer Taliban to sit with Afghan government and talk to bring peace in the country.

It may be mentioned that Afghanistan will host “Kabul Process Conference” on June 6, 2017 that will be launching pad for “Kabul Initiative” for peace.

The purpose behind this initiative is to ensure that any future peace initiative to end the civil war would be Afghan led and Afghan driven.

Source in Presidential Palace (Presidential Office) say that United States wishes to keep Russia away from Afghan peace process while Russia is constantly offering support to bring normalcy in Afghanistan that is bleeding since 1979 when former Soviet Union entered from Friendship Bridge connecting Afghanistan with former Soviet Union Uzbek SSR.

Conference will be attended by security advisors and leaders from United States, United Nations, European Union, Norway, Canada, India, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

According to National Security Advisor of Afghanistan Mohammad Hanif Atmar, invitations have been sent to all neighbouring countries including China to attend this important event that would be held just three days before SCO Summit in Astana, Kazakhstan. Atmar met his counterparts from Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Russia and India at 8th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues that was held in Tver, Russia.
