Peshawar, Pakistan: Journalists including one female reporter were attacked and tortured for two hours by teachers and administration of Government High School Nanak Pura here at GT Road Peshawar on Thursday. The teachers also damaged the cameras of private TV channels.
According to the details, journalists came under attack when they arrived to cover the training session of females presiding officers regarding upcoming local government elections. The teachers and administrative staff of Government High School Nanak Pura, on behest of their principal, started torture on the journalists in order to kept them away from performing their duty.
The two teachers of the same school locked a female reporter of ARY News Shazia and Mussarrat Ullah of Dunya News in a room. Reportedly, the teachers abused and tortured both reporters and damaged their cameras.
Soon after the incident, District Education Officer (EDO) Sharif, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sajjad, Station House Officer (SHO) Hishtnagri Riyaz and other officials of the education department rushed to the spot of incident and freed the reporters. President Peshawar Press Club Syed Bukhar Shah and President Khyber Union of Journalist (KHUJ) Nisar Mehmood also rushed to the spot and assured their full support to journalists.
Later, the journalist community expressed grave concerns over misbehave and torture of teachers and uttered solidarity with the victims journalists. They also demanded the Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Atif Khan for setting up an inquiry committee to probe the matter and action against the principal and other staff of the mentioned school.
