LAHORE, Pakistan: The Chief of Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JUD) Hafiz Saeed has been arrested by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab, the Sources in the CTD told media.

The Sources said that Hafiz Saeed was arrested while he was enroute to Lahore from Gujranwala.

Meanwhile, his family has also confirmed his arrest.

The CTD Sources said that the JUD Chief has been sent to the Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore on judicial remand.

Earlier this month, Hafiz Saeed and six others approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) against terror cases filed against them.

The petitions requested the LHC to declare the cases against them null and void. On that, a two-member bench consisting of Justice Shehram Sarwar Chaudhry and Justice Mohammad Waheed Khan issued notices to the parties in the Case – the federal government, the Punjab government and the CTD.

While last Monday, a Lahore’s Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) granted pre-arrest bail to Hafiz Saeed and three others which included Hafiz Masood, Ameer Hamza and Malik Zafar in a case pertaining to the JUD’s alleged illegal use of land for its seminary.

The ATC granted them the interim bail until August 3 against surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each.
